An architecture competition with invited participants sought solutions for the residential and commercial apartment buildings to be constructed on the Eskadrilli 2 and Eskadrilli 3 properties, as well as the surrounding outdoor spaces. The concept design “A Home Where Life Blossoms” was developed in collaboration with the landscape architecture studio Punktiir. The jury selected this entry as the best in the architecture competition, awarding it first prize.

The competition entry aimed to create solutions that respect Tartu’s historical heritage while bringing new energy to the area. At the core of the project are small-scale apartment buildings that blend with the suburban character, providing private and comfortable homes for future residents. Rather than a sense of scale, the buildings convey a feeling of intimacy and community. The arrangement of the buildings on the plots, the varied use of materials on façades, the articulation and varied heights of the structures, and the lush landscape architecture create a diverse streetscape. The courtyards between buildings are divided into private and semi-private areas, thanks to terraces and green buffers, primarily intended for community use, yet open for passersby or visitors to enjoy. Privacy is achieved through carefully organized and thoughtfully planted greenery and landscaping.

The goal of the concept design is to create an environment where people feel a sense of belonging—a place where every day offers opportunities to meet friends and create new memories.
